Default Saddam badge

Hi, I wondered what this badge is, military or otherwise? It came on the beret but it may have been added for decoration, thanks in advance Mike

The badge appears to have something to do with the Fedayeen, the design appears to match that shown here.

There is one on a Beret here: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...eret-420217846

Described as: "Iraq- Fedayeen Saddam Black Beret With Fedayeen Badge"

Lots of information on the web for "Fedayeen Saddam" if you google it

Fedayeen Saddam

Fedayeen Saddam (Arabic: فدائيي صدام) was a paramilitary organization loyal to the Ba'athist Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein. The name was chosen to mean "Saddam's Men of Sacrifice". At its height, the group had 30,000–40,000 members.

Also , black beret with badge on WorthPoint.

Hi Simon, Woofy and Mike, thank you for your input, gratefully received. It was very good of you all as it has intrigued me ever since the Iraq war. I'm slightly saddened as they, it appears, didn't have any armour, but, hey, you can't have everything, thanks again to you all and best wishes, Mike

Is that the weird Darth Vader type helmet you have? Would love to see some images of an original as I believe these are being faked already!

Simon.

My "Darth Vader":

A link to some info. re. telling good from bad helmets:

https://gmic.co.uk/topic/56089-iraqi...-reproduction/

The wording on the helmet badge also appears as part of that on the beret badge, I have noted its translation as "The Lord The Homeland The Leader".

A comment I read about these helmets was that they possessed no protective qualities but would contribute to an unusual looking corpse.

From Wiki :

Writing visible says الله (Allah), القائد (Commander), الوطن (Motherland), فدائيي صدام (Fedayeen Saddam).

Leigh,

Thanks for showing the photographs, always thought it was such an odd choice of shape for a helmet and couldn't have been comfortable. Wondered if the shape at the front was designed with being able to pray without the need to remove it as with WW1 Turkish headdress but looking at your example think it would still be impossible with the peak at the front.

Simon.

From what I've read the helmet was just based on the one worn by the "Star Wars" character as one of Saddam's sons (Uday?) was a fan - I must admit that the lack of a peak in order to facilitate prayer hadn't occurred to me despite steel helmets in the past being designed to enable this.

Saddam was a Star Wars fan . Hence the design.
They are a real talking point , and real ones very disirable.
