Unknown enamel colour patch
Hello all
I recently picked up this on eBay. It was advertised as a WW11 Australian Pioneer Regiment colour patch. Its the same size and configuration of many WW11 association badges but I haven't been able to find it in any reference material I have, would anybody out there have any ideas on what unit it represents? Thanks Dennis Last edited by Ironside410; 15-12-19 at 06:17 AM. Reason: Spelling |

Hello Dennis,
It is Australian Army Medical Corps Sea Transport Staff 1941-45, brown T on blue background. The original Great War authorisation was for brown T on dark blue, which was amended to light blue a month later. The most commonly quoted authority for use during WW2 with light blue and a grey background is GRO 468/1943 but it was first authorised in 1941 and may have appeared in a variety of blues at this time. Thank Keith, I've found it in your book now, I was looking for a red T but on closer inspection I can see its brown which would have been a giveaway for medical related.

Hi
Transparent enamel is notoriously fickle and can behave very differently on different metals. I would see it as a brown now you mention what it should be but it could equally be a "red" on silver as it rarely comes out the way it should. This badge appears to be plated so will be on a copper alloy (but NOT copper as it would be much darker!) |
