No! The only time they ever got a 'royal' was if they fed one! Sorry ACC guys, some of you were splendid and as a TA soldier and a poverty stricken student I was grateful to many a meal from you lot.

Manufactured circa 1946 in expectation of a "Royal" title which was not forthcoming (unlike the Pioneer Corps) until absorbed into the Royal Logistic Corps in 1993!

The bain of my life and a whole chapter in my memoires one day, bless em!

'ONE Shredded Wheat" To be fair it was only the Depot Slops that gave anyone any shit.
At Battalion / Regiment they where very much mates and equals.

Thank you, that explains it! It fits with the 1947 date of introduction I have found for the grey on yellow titles in full.

I loved the A.C.C. When i joined the army in the early 70's i had never eaten so well, it was the first time in my life i had eaten steak. and when deployed to NI they looked after us royally, the scoff provided in Germany was also top stuff, great boy's and the Royal was a very sad omission. Phil.

A standing joke in the army of course and I'm sure it raised some groans!

On reflection, the bad experiences are far outweighed by the good but they make for some funny stories! (Too long for here I'm afraid and too far off topic).

I had without doubt some of the best eating experiences of my life whilst serving and have enjoyed "banquets" that were fit for a king.

Actually, some highly skilled professionals, working often under conditions that could only be described as "Hellish". Some good lads.

I am disappointed though to hear that things have apparently gone downhill in recent years due to cost cutting and I believe that most of the food in today's cookhouse is prepared by under skilled, undervalued and under-paid civilian staff.

A great shame!

Ry
