RN wings?
Hi Fred
I think this is a Fleet Air Arm Air Gunners badge. According to May: 'A new badge for wear by air gunners 3rd class and men holding higher non-substantive ratings as air gunners was approved in AFO/4491 of September 1942. This badge consisted of wings having in the centre a fouled anchor surrounded by a narrow oval of rope. It was worn by chief petty officers on the cuff of the left sleeve 1/4" (6.3 mm) above the centre button and by other ratings 1 1/2" (38.1 mm) above the point of the left cuff of the jumper or from the end of the sleeve of the jacket." I have a wartime Air Gunners uniform in my collection. I'll get it out later and check it against the badge on the uniform. Pete |

Sorry Fred!
I've checked on my uniform and the wings are as described but they are UPWARD pointing wings like the modern Aircrewman. I'm wrong again (not unusual!). Pete |

Pete,
Thanks for checking. I suppose they could have been made by a tailor that got it wrong particularly if they went on a vague description. Regards fred |

It appears to be very 'new' looking to me, possibly a reproduction(?).
I originally thought what with that big gold wire oval it might be an early Observers badge, but had a look in May & could not see any reference to this badge. If it is supposed to be FAA Pilot then it would have a KC above the anchor & laurel wreath around the anchor. Bryan |

They look similar to current Royal Australian Navy Aircrewman wing and are of similar size to there mess dress ones, though the RAN ones are metal. RAN trial or fantasy maybe?
