Hi guys,

I do believe the RAF Pilots flying badge attached to the BD is a copy.

Any thoughts etc gratefully received.

Cheers for now

Can we see a photograph of the wing itself?

Hi Frank,

Sorry, I don't have the tunic and that is the only photo I have showing the Pilot Flying Badge (Brevet) which is sewn on, though I'm waiting on closer photos to go along with that shown.

I've been led to believe the crown is the wrong shape and the writing of RAF is also not right!!

Cheers for now

Johnny

Yes, it certainly does not look great, but, a better image would help!
It's a BD and not a tunic by the way.

Default Badged blouse

Hi Johnny, not the best of photos of the RAF pilot badged blouse but i have my doubts, a close up once available should dispel any questions of authenticity.

I'm also not sure if a PFF badge would have been worn on a flying blouse, perhaps another collector can comment though i'm sure there has been reference on this site in the past.

It looks a nice blouse though, i'm guessing a late war dated War Service example??

Happy collecting, Kerry.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your comments, slip on the keyboard and brain fart re Tunic / BD, sorry.

Those awarded the PFF badge only wore it after the war ended on their BD, however a few did wear it during! I have a few photos in the museum showing this. although the AMOA (1244) did initially say it could be worn on the flying suit as well as service tunic.

The BD is dated 1942, there are the trousers also, both in excellent condition, the best I have ever seen. They were locked away in a case and found on a house clearance.

When I get more pics from the chap I will post them.

Thanks again.

Cheers for now

Johnny

Hi guys,

As promised, I have received some more pics of the Pilots Flying Badge.

The chap is convinced this to be genuine, I'm just not sure and therefore grateful for your comments etc.

Thanks again in anticipation.

Yours Aye

Johnny

Most unusual, it's shape and design, purely from the photographs, I would be compelled to suggest that particular wing is original and certainly not what I would have expected to see after looking briefly at the photograph in your original post.

I'd agree with Mike, in my opinion it's a copy. Never seen an original WW2 period wing with such a large border around the wings, also the crown is too "squat". The added fact that it has been poorly stitched to the uniform doesn't fill me with confidence either.

Could you show an example so that we can make an exact comparison?

An example of this fake? Sure no problem. I got stung with this one years ago.

Okay yes, it is far too similar to the example in the original post, I withdraw my suggestion completely, sorry Johnny, but, there it is.
