West Point Headdress
Came across this rather tatty but lovely West Point piece in an antique/bric-a-brac shop and thought of sharing.

That USMA Cadet Shako dates from the 1920s or 30s. There was a fitting on the top front which held a black plume.
If you are in Malta, I cant imagine imagine how it ever got there! CB

The only similar item I have, I think the plate is for an army bandsman (also worn by civilian marching bands?)
It's got some age to it. I should get around to getting a plume etc for it. |

Thanks for that info, I bought it because it had some age to it and appeared to have a link to the military rather than be a civilian shako. I did a little internet "research" re. the period of use of the design of logo, DeMoulin had a useful website at the time, it appears to have been superceeded by one that's more of a list of modern products for sale.

A more modern West Point shako and a Citadel Military Academy shako currently for sale on eBay
(Ihave no connection to the sales). I note that the chains are of a different style ("belcher"?) rather than the flat rings that I thought was the norm. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202956024637 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202956024602 Last edited by leigh kitchen; 05-04-20 at 03:31 PM. |
