Am sure someone more Knowledgeable will answer these for you but could the "R-R" be Rough Riders? The "M-L" be Mounted Lancers? "B-A-T-C" I have seen this somewhere but at a loss for now or be something similar but not this one you posted!

The RR is probably Rand Rifles, the BATG is obviously a town guard badge but I can't find any reference to what BA would stand for amongst my reference material.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I though RR might be Rand Rifles, so it probably is. I think the other title is BATC, not BATG. Could it be ...Telegraph Company? - So maybe a signals connection? Also, ML for mounted Lancers doesn't really make sense, seems like stating the obvious, though it is possible.
