Default PENCIL - WW1?

Hi all, I wanted to ask the more knowledgeable of the team on this pencil I picked up recently. I think that it wasn't for the Princess mary tin as it doesn't have the cypher on the side and that it is a propelling pencil as opposed to the standard pencil stuffed into the bullet tip.

I have it from a reliable source that they saw one like this at a show where the Western Front Association was, it was on a table with a complete content sample of the tin; cigarettes, card etc

Would anyone have some info on this type and what it was issued for.

Many thanks

Simon.
