London Units
Hello all
I am sure some of the learned people on this forum can point me in the right direction. I am currently researching Army units that are considered London units. The battalions that made up the London Regiment have been well covered in this forum, as have the Yeomanry units. I have been able to find out about the current day units from the British Army website. I am trying to find out about London TA units in the period between the 1st World War until the 90's. I am also interested in finding out if any regular regiments (apart from the Royal Fusiliers) were also considered "London" For example the Middlesex Regt. If anyone can point out websites, books or Army lists that can assist me with finding out the units, it would be most appreciated |

The KRRC and Rifle Brigade were most certainly London Regts.

Thanks for that Alan, I thought they might be seeing the links with London Regt battalions.
I am interested to find out if there were any supporting arms units from London during both wars. There doesn't seem to be much information on that . |

There were London Signal regts, RE and RA.
The 25th Bn (Cyclists) City of London regt re-roled to RSIGNALS in 1920. The 4th Bn the London Regt were gunners post WW1 amongst others. |

Thanks for that Alan. it certainly is pointing me in the right way. Do you think that writing to the individual corps museums will provide any information?
thanks once again |

Hi guys,
Don't forget that there are also the Inns of Court Regt, Honourable Artillery Company (Infantry and Artillery) and the London University OTC. Cheers Phil

London Volunteer Regts
There were also many VTC (Volunteer Training Corps) units based in London during WWI, some are shown in Kipling and King, but there are other units still that are not recorded to my knowledge.

All Territorial Divisions had arms and services in addition to infantry. The Territorial arms and services from the City of London and the County of London are listed in the Territorial Year book for 1909 ( the first and I think only year of issue ).Some of these units might not have been reformed after WW1 but many would have been.
See attached scan for some examples of the units involved.Might be worth looking at The Territorial Artillery by Lichfield for London R.A. T.A. units. A lot of Territorial Associations have published booklets about the units they administer and it might be worth looking for any booklets published by the London Territorial Associations. P.B.

My research so far
So far, this is what my research has come up with. If anyone can fill in any spaces, correct anything or anything like that, it would be most appreciated. (I apologise for the layout but I just copied and pasted it from an Excel spreadsheet - too large to put it in as an attachment).

Peter and Thomas
many thanks for taking the time to reply and provide some additional information, particularly about 10 Para. I am currently looking for information about any London based units from the Royal Pioneer Corps and the Army Catering Corps. I know that personnel from the latter would have been attached to various other units in London, but was there a parent unit for them in London? thanks once again |
