Unknown Cloth Badges
Hi, I had 3 badges to identity but the small anchor badge is now identified as 861st (Independent) Light Anti-Aircraft (Orkney & Shetland). No idea of the other 2, think the TA is Trinidad Artillery? The 4 I.Y. may be Imperial or Independent Yeomanry? Any ideas?

I believe the TA badge is Trinidad Artillery. It is fairly common and sometimes seen cut square and (mis) described as a Drop Zone flash.
I also have the 4 IY badge and would be interested in positive identification. Tim

I have seen the 4 IY described as a Pagri/slouch hat Flash for the 4th Imperial Yeo., or 4th Co. Leicestershire Imp. Yeo.
The style of construction leaves me in some doubt however, as it looks later than the Boer war period. There are several of these floating around from dealers now as well as in the recent past. CB |

4 I.Y. Badge
Hi, I was also of the opinion that due to it's construction and freshness this is probably a repro. I will put it in a mix of other spurious badges I have and get rid through a well known site stating that in my opinion they are all repro! If one or more turn out to be genuine then that's my loss.

I don't think that it is a repro either. I just think they may be something other, and also later, than what they purport to be. It is possible that they are as thought, and some new old stock flashes are floating around, but the design and black backing are not what I would normally expect from that period.
They look more interwar or ww2. CB |

The TA badge has defied identification for many years.
Apart from the Trinidad Artillery it has also been attributed to the Middlesex Yeomanry's band and its Signals Squadron in the Airborne role. It would be good if we could finally nail it. Jon |
