Thanks Jonathan for the clarification. Is it known if the dustman 'saved' the badge etc while working or were they perhaps family items? Do you know how long ago this was? Regards, Paul.

The Lambourne made Welsh Regt badge is very distinctive and examples scarce whether BM or blackened. Clearly they’ve never been ‘restruck’ from the original die so no doubt yours is genuine Paul as it doesn’t appear to be a lost wax casting. As to the missing underscore it wouldn’t worry me in the slightest given the above. I would bet good money that it’s actually there and just difficult to see because it’s not the clearest of impressions on a blacked badge which will have filled it in ever so slightly or it was just not the best stamping and didn’t come out.

On a slightly different note but hopefully still relevant to the thread. The POW plumes on the suspect Welsh Cyclist badges are from the same die as this, the most commonly seen GM Cheshire Yeomanry badge. Also it may be my eyes but the slider has a similar appearance too.

Now a Cheshire Yeo badge from the same die as the one pictured is shown in Wilkinson’s 1st (1969) edition which to date I’m yet to find a badge within it that’s fake.

I've been following this post and have been able to locate my badge which Brookie says is the correct worn badge for 7th Cyclists. I always thought it was a repro and thought I had got rid of it .Glad I didn't ! The one I thought was genuine I've also attached for opinion as I can't be sure that it is the same as Luke said was a wrong un.

Bore da Bantam,

Your second badge does look to be the same as the copied version that we have been discussing in this thread.

Diolch 41st,
Thought that might have been the case but eyes and a few other parts not what they used to be. So glad I never got rid of the one I thought was a restrike but now turns out to be OK.Thank you as always for your input.

Default Could you pass judgement on my badge please?

Interesting reading this thread, but I'm now wondering if another of my badges is a dud. I wonder if you could tell me what you think.
Regards,
Leo

David,
Apologies, it was sold to me as a cap badge & I'm afraid I wouldn't have known the difference, but as long as it's genuine then I'm happy. Many thanks.

Leo

Leo as a rule of thumb cast officer service dress badges with 2/3 lugs are normally collars O S D cap badges normally on blade fittings

This is the earliest photo I can find of the Welsh Cyclists badge with enough granularity and detail to see the font. It was photographed by EJ Martin for an article he published in 1944.

It's only a small photo but it shows the shape quite clearly. It's possible that they had more than one die of course.
