Top left is a WO1 or RSM badge of rank. There are three 7th Armoured Brigade badges aka Desert Rats, the one with the red hand of Ulster is 36th Ulster Division, and the matching pair of rampant boars is 30 Corps.

The fox face is 8th Armd Bde (if they're old enough, the desert rats could also be for 7th Armd Div, rather than Bde).

The top one is Dutch manufacture, so probably late war.

If you want to but, as far as I know, no-one has repro'ed Brabant weave badges. Having said that some-one will produce an example. They did produce some HD badges and 12th corps as well. Maybe it would be interesting to find out what other badges they produced other than the ones for the Dutch Army?

Hi, sadly I never noted where I got mine from so I couldn't say what time frame they fit into. Sometime after 1943. Hopefully some-one else will have been more dilligent in their collecting and knows the timeframe of the various rats as they are still in use some 60 odd years after their first use.

Sincere apologies for not replying earlier -- I've been a bit out of circulation. IMO the bottom pair of rats does look old enough to be WW2, although the ones in my collection look a bit different from the back. Embroidered signs vary hugely from maker to maker, however. |

Car Boot Badges
Hi,
Ref your car boot finds. The top left is a Warrant Officer Class 1 arm badge for Service Dress/Jumper Order/Shirt Sleeve Order for the Regimental Sergeant Major of any of the Foot Guards Regiments. Instead of it being worn on the lower right cuff, they wear them on the right arms between shoulder and elbow. Only the RSM will wear this type of badge as the other WO1's wear a small (normal size) badge on the right forearm. Nice find for a car boot!: |
