Badge Identification
Hi, I’ve recently been given my great grandfather’s WW2 medal ribbons. I was told by my grandmother before she died he sold the medals. I’ve managed to identified the ribbons: war medal, Atlantic star & Pacific star but I can’t identify the uniform/blazer badge. As far as I know he was in the merchant navy so I’m not sure if this is the correct place but here goes!
I’ve gone through hundreds of pictures online but can only find similar not the same. Thanks for your help. |

It seems to be a generic Merchant Navy (Blazer?) badge.

The crown is a naval crown and the anchor is off a Merchant Navy Officers badge with the bar at the top of the anchor tilted, was your Gt Grandfather an officer in the Merchant Navy ?
The Naval Crown (Latin: corona navalis) was a gold crown surmounted with small replicas of the prows of ships. It was a Roman military award, given to the first man who boarded an enemy ship during a naval engagement. It is used on all RN Crests and is widely seen around the world. |
