Default Grenadier Guards on BBC last night(7/6/10)

Not photographs I know but I wonder if anyone else saw the programme last night on the preparations by the Grenadier Guards for the Trooping the colour this coming Saturday ?

Some interesting items of insignia and orders of dress to be seen.

P.B.

P.S. if you didnt catch you can see it on BBC iPlayer

The guards officers were a bit sloppy with their marching when I saw them the other week.....

Amazing sight though...

Tom,
that's Bl**dy Guards Officers for you!.... Just watch them on Saturday though!!! You'll then see why we have the best Army in the World... "Others" can try to match but only the British could be slogging their guts out in Afghanistan and then 9-10 weeks later, the very same soldiers, be slogging around Horse Guards Parade!

Bl**dy Marvelous!

Andy

I caught the last 20 minutes or so, on a sneaky break at work. I was very impressed. Very envious of my folks who are going to see it this weekend.
Definitely the best in the world!

I never miss any parades unless something serious stops me and watching them can still make me ' fill up ', we should all be very proud.

Dave.

The bit I liked the most was when the Garrison Sgt. Mjr. put the Household Cavalry officer who had criticised the Grenadiers C.O.s "reining back" firmly in his place with the utmost politeness ( perhaps you might have to be a fellow scouser to appreciate the undertones ? )

Definately they'll be tip top for Saturdays show, but the Irish Guardmen I was sitting with at the General's (?) parade the other weekend were most scathing when the officers were meant to walk out in a straight line sword upwards, and they all left at different times, out of step and in as snakey a line as I have seen.... a lot of tutting from the major sitting next to me :-( The horses were also a tad band shy, but only to be expected with the little time they've spent out with the full band.

The comment of "Watch the yanks go green with envy" was mentioned... (I have high respect for the guards, my family have served with both the Grenadiers and the Coldstreams ).

BTW, when did the Guards drop the height restrictions???

ATB,
Tom

Default Blackened badge

Available on BBC iplayer, watched it last night ,very good .
Did anyone else spot the Grenadiers with the blackened cap badges?
Would these badges be the new metal type or anodised and are they blackend by the Guardsman himself?
Thanks Tony.

I have a brass Grenadier Guards badge that has been "Parkerised" front, back and lugs probably by the Battalion REME armourer as this is or was the finish applied to small arms and magazines.

Tony,
anodised aluminium plain ball greandes are quite scarce as they are not worn. All Grenadier Guardsman wear Brass Grenades. The blackened ones you see on ebay are made for the collectors market. The blackening is done individually or the Platoon Sergeant will often do the whole platoons "Field" grenades in one batch. They are not issued black.

Thanks for pointers Andy, was wondering why I had no problem collecting anodised versions of other Guards Regiments and never found a Grenadiers.
The badge I refer to is not on ebay ,think I will chance it and post on forum forum for approval or not, up for only £4.
Tony.
