Unknown maker
Have just bought this Royal Munsters badge. On a raised area inside the ball of the badge in raised letters is WJD. I assume this must be the maker? Anyone help with an id.

Thanks for the replies everyone, assume the initials on the slider are the soldiers who wore it. I have not seen this set of initials as a makers mark. Is it by Dowler then?

Am I dense or what? I have never seen that mark before, not that I am all that up on them. It is not stamped at all, but in relief. Additionally, sliders were VERY seldom stamped with a serial number or any thing else, other than by fakers. Can we at least see a view of the obverse?

Thanks CB. The badge is 100% authentic. It was bought off a friend who has 50 years of collecting behind him, his knowledge of badge s and collecting is outstanding. I have had the odd badge which has a number or name on the slider, usually ww1 vintage and they have all been on genuine badges. It does not increase the value so I don't see why a faker would do that on an original common badge.
I posted tis because , like you, I have never noticed a genuine badge with a raised area with WJD in relief on it. This I assume would have to be on the original die and I wondered if is was the makers mark, which I am now told is Dowler. Cheers John

Is there any record that shows Dingley as a maker in WW1? Are there any other badges extent that have this mark? It certainly looks to be a period badge, but this is all rather strange.
