West Lancashire ACF
Just acquitted a large album of real photographs of the West Lancashire Army Cadet Force from later part of WW2 and the late 1940’s.
There are a number of particularly interesting ( to me at least) photos, a few of which I am showing here. The County Commandant ( if that was his title then ) interestingly wearing a medal ribbon on his right breast ( life saving medal ?) Officer of Cadet Battalion wearing home Guard numeral to identify battalion. Football team showing large formation sign on their football shirts. Liverpool Irish cadets , pleased to get this as I have seen very few pictures of LI cadets. P.

West Lancs ACF
Hi Peter.
Great photos especially of the insignia being worn. I think the medal ribbon being worn by the County Commandant is likely to be the BNCA / ACFA cadet long service medal (or badge as it was known really). This was the only recognition cadet officers received before the Cadet Forces Long Service Medal was instituted in 1950 but wasn't official, hence wearing on the right side. I've included a couple of photos to show the two different suspenders and the reverse. As you can see, it was hall marked silver so can be dated. I saw one once that was engraved with recipient details in the space below the lion. Forgot to put a ruler next to them but the rectangular medal part is 27mm in length so you can see it was quite a small medal! Regards, Andrew, |

Final, final picture.
Liverpool Scottish cadets wearing the Liverpool Scottish ( Cameron) glengarry badge on the field service cap and side cap. Forbes tartan flashes on sleeves and slip on shoulder titles. It seems unlikely that they are the same shoulder titles worn by the Liverpool Scottish Territorials so what titles are they wearing?
