Time For A Refresh?

I notice that it has now been well over a year since anyone posted within this sub-heading (the longest period of any update on the entire Forum website). I therefore thought it may be an opportune moment to suggest that those collectors with extensive or specialised collections of Canadian Cadet badges (rather than OTC) posted some images of their collection(s).

In particular, I would really like to see the sorts of badges illustrated in Mazeas’ pre-1914 book (such as the large Agricultural College cap badge) that rarely, if ever, appear for sale on the open market. After all, Daniel Mazeas (presumably) only illustrated badges that had provenance, and so they must exist.

I will leave it up to contributors to decide what they believe is worth showing/sharing. I will post a few photos from my smallish collection once I have set up my camera and tried to get the lighting right.

I wait to see whether this post generates the responses I hope for

Here's a variation of the T.P.S. Cadet hat badge. Shown in Mazeas.

This one belonged to my paternal grandfather. That, and his WWI hat badge given to me by my grandmother gave me the bug in 1970 and I've been at it ever since.

Further to my post of yesterday, I am attaching a photo of my paternal grandfather (James William B., known as "Bill") and his older brother, my great uncle (Charles Clinton B., known as "Chuck" or "Charlie") in their cadet uniforms. My grandfather Bill is on the left of the photo. This is before WW I.

Apologies for the photo, as I do not have the original. It is a photo of a photocopied picture in a privately produced family history.

For other readers: I'm certain that other Cadet badges exist in some of the collections of the 100+ people who have read this thread. In particular, does anyone have, let's say, CD27 (Verdun College Cadet Corps No.153), CD36 (Nova Scotia Agricultural School Cadet Corps No.283), or CD47 (Corps De Cadets De Shawinigan Falls Cadet Corps No.694) in their collections, and are willing to share photos of these, or any other cap badges so far not shown?

Again, I can only hope some more images of Cadet badges are shared here on the Forum.

Well, it’s great to see the badges in the post 1. They are certainly warranted as a part of the forum and I’m glad that someone has “re-opened” this thread.
Not that I collect OTC or Cadet stuff excepting that I do have the Ridley College hat and two collars, plus cloth shoulder titles to “St.Catharines Collegiate” Cadet Corps, (The present day 68 R.C.A.C.C.).
As a Hosting Family for the International Air Cadet Exchange program for over 20 years, I also have a number of British and Foreign Air Cadet flashes, shoulder titles buttons and Badges. I keep them as mementos as I only really collect Artillery badges, buttons etc. One point, I would have liked to have seen the names of the cadet corps badges that are shown. And I DID note the two styles of Ridley College that you have. Thank you for sharing and I hope your letter moves others to respond. Best regards, David J.

Oh Dear, I just realised that there are three Ridley’s badges. I remember way back in my Foggy Forties of hearing of Bishop Ridley College. That HAS to be a prize piece you have there!

Hi milcollectorblue, I was going to send you a “PM” but then thought here in public might elicit more members to post. I have strong reason to believe that Your “CD4” badge is the first pattern badge of “Bishop Ridley College” cadet corps in St.Catharines. Your “CD28” & “CD29 are the later versions of “Ridley College” Cadet Corps in St.Catharines. (You will note that all three types of badges have the same motto) the lettering on the badges themselves also seems to support my belief. It maybe that the lettering of “CD4” could mean something not known at the moment, hopefully another member of the forum will provide an answer.
I have proof that the name of Ridley College was at first “Bishop Ridley College”. on June 27th 1889, the first staff were appointed by the executive committee.
A board meeting held on January 11th 1900 resolved that the word “Bishop” be dropped from the title. Further reading shows that the name of Bishop Ridley College of Ontario, Limited was changed to “Ridley College” dated 19th February, 1900.. Again, I do hope other members can add to this thread.
