Hi Chris,

I'd agree yours looks ok from the correct die and with a nice slider correct to the period. You can tell from the scroll being fairly shallow in the centre plus it not passing the ends of the grass support. The grass support on good badges like yours is significantly fatter than repros. Another point I use is the internal lap of the horses neck and head on repros it forms a very smooth near prefect flowing swan neck, whereas on originals it is more angular as return from the horses jaw line seems to pertrude straight down from the apex of the neck.

Default Reference to thread 5/6 19 Hussars

Examples Of 19th Hussars 1885

Left to right.

Offrs HM Silver The ideal reference Lugs north/ south

Offrs Bz Blades East /West

Other Ranks WM Slider attached top of 1885 cross up to base of crown then folded down

Other Ranks GM/Brass Slider attached just below the top of the cross up to just short of
the top of the crown the folded over

Other Ranks Wm Slider attached base of crown .


I believe these to all be genuine .

Any thoughts anyone !!!!!!!!

That is a lovely original badge. I have an identical one with the same cut out hairpin slider.

I have seen a lot of fakes but the die used has a broader crown and a standard slider. I don't think that an all brass version is right I am afraid.
