Default Welsh Militia Scrolls & Brass Numerals

Good afternoon.

A few Welsh related militia scrolls all circa 1850's.

1. Merioneth
2. Royal Cardigan
3. Royal Carnarvon
4. Royal Denbigh
5. Royal Radnor
6. All five/group.

Ta

Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan
These are nice badges, are they worn on the pork pie hat?
And are they all worn with the bugle horn badge?

I remember I have read somewhere that grenadier companies wore the grenade instead of the bugle.

I also understand that these badges were used 1858-1874 (together with the pork pie/pillbox cap). It is possible that during the first years of the usage there still were grenadier companies in the militia regiments.

I have them also seen pictures combined with a (Victorian) crown on the internet.

BTW, I have found this one: https://www.lot-art.com/auction-lots...8.12.21-bosley. I do not know if that was the normal combination for this regiment, for all six West Yorkshire Militia Regiments, or if this is a made up combination.

Good afternoon Chris.

Generally most Welsh Militia scrolls were worn on a (peakless) forage hat with a bugle above the scroll as most were rifle volunteers.

The later (as called) pill box hat would have brass numerals (as below).
