Loyal Suffolk Hussars cap badge
Here's an all Gm 1916 pattern economy badge ,(as described), of The Loyal Suffolk Hussars.
Bought with several other later identified as original cavalry /Yeomanry items last year.It appears to be the real deal ,but i'd appreciate an head's up on it. Cheers. Alan. |

Jon kindly allowed me to copy this post from another thread showing the large bi-metal badge in use during the inter war years after the Yeomanry's conversion to RA.
Although merged with the Norfolk Yeomanry as a gunner regt, individual batteries continued to hold county titles and as this photo shows, for at least part of the period, retained with old County badges. Last edited by Alan O; 27-05-16 at 09:01 AM. |

I have identified the sealed pattern card details for the LSH. The words I have highlighted in bold suggests that the bi-metal badge was originally sealed for official production in 1922.
If I read it correctly the 1924 date that I have written in blue is the removal of the 'Field' part of RFA to RA in common with the rest of the Artillery. This s/p card held in the IWM is for the sealing of the post war unit in its Arty role but authorised to wear the original Yeomanry bi-metal design. Now what I am not certain on is the bit in red - is this a previous sealing of the cap badge in May 16 or the quality of the metal to be used? Physical description badge, card, seal . Not a 1916 economy but an all gilding metal large pattern LSH cap badge from 1953.

This photo taken in 1944 in NW Europe proves that the LSH Gunners continued to wear their Yeomanry badges.

An excellent image of the two LSH Gunners. Thanks for posting it. Here's another - earlier in the War. Mike

Great photo and nice confirmation that they was continuation of use of the cap badge pre-war, early war and at the end. Some Yeomanry badges were resurrected mid war so it's nice to see this photo.

I do wonder if the right hand Yeoman is wearing the smaller w/m castle collar badge in his GS cap? I have seen it written that the old collar badges were worn by the ORs. However as they were wearing RA grenades in the inter war period I did wonder if the ID as a collar was right and they are not confusing post war w/m collars for ww2 badges.

1795 date
Not really relevant to economy badges, but many years ago I had (and exchanged) an original bimetal Loyal Suffolk Hussars badge which appeared to be a manufacturer's error, with the date 1795 instead of 1793. Has anyone ever seen another?
