Hi Guys,

New early variant of the Highland Light Infantry Kings Crown added.

From correspondance with the owner I believe this to be the official authorized version of this anodised badge sealed back on the 31st May 1950.

I suggest that the other KC and the QC versions of the HLI badge shown whilst made by MoD authorised manufacturers are in fact unauthorised versions commissioned by establishments such as military museums, renuion associations or even private commissions by individuals for sale on the open market. I believe that both badges exhibit certain common characteristics which imply they were made at the same time.

The task of sorting the authorised official anodised items from the non authorised (even if manufactured by official Mod manufaturers) is one that I am undertaking albeit quite slowly. It will take some time and a certain amount of detective work helped by members here on the forum.

Regards

Chris

Absolutely !!!

Stupid here bought two about a year ago before he realized what they were. Pretty good obverse quality though but have now replaced them.

At least they were originaly sold as reproductions not like the two Wiltshire badges currently on eBay with Firmin and Guant maker marks on an other makers slider.

Regards

Chris

I am not convinced by the story.

1. Before 1992 and the formation of the AGC all KOSB Clerks were drawn from the rifle coys and therefore male.

2. Women in the AGC Det of the KOSB wear the regtl headgear, tartan skirts etc but the AGC badge. Attached REME personnel also retain their own badge.

3. In the 1970s and 80s the WRAC attached to other arms (RSignals/RCT/RAOC) all wore their WRAC cap badge on green berets but did wear a capbadge on the wool pullover chest to show who they were serving with.

What you have here is not a female beret badge as any female attached to the KOSB woould wear KOSB bonnet but retain their own badge. It could be a badge for wear on the pullover but I cannot imagine why a female would be attached to the KOSB from the WRAC. Alternatively it could well be from a belt buckle or soemthing like that.

Default K.O.S.B cap badge

Alan,
I am certain I have seen female servicewomen wearing the K.O.S.B badge in the T.O.S. But I cannot recall wether it was the small badge or the large one.
If I remember correctly on disbandment of the W.R.A.C in 1990 all oficers and later O.R's were transferred to the Corps or regiment they were serving with, in this case the K.O.S.B. With the emergence shortly after of the Adjutant General Corps and R.L.C etc female servicewomen were transferred back to a Corps and the new badges were worn In the T.O.S instead of the K.O.S.B bonnet badge.
Regards.
Colin

You may have seen Cadets and TA females as they may have worn the KOSB badge but I am at a loss why they would want a beret version when they would have been in Scottish headgear.

From memory the transition from WRAC to AGC was immediate rather than with a gap. I certainly remember the rebadging from WRAC to AGC happening overnight.
