Proper Cap Badge for 7th Armored, The Desert Rats
Although I don't usually collect combat units anymore, I have always had a soft spot for the 7th Armored - The Desert Rats, so when I see their patch at a fair price I'll get it. I have enough now to set up a display case with them, but am not sure which the proper cap badge would be to put with them. My collection is not just WW2, but up to the present if that makes any difference.
Here's a picture of what I have, and I've put the mailed fist badge with it, but not sure if that is correct??? Any advise is appreciated, Terry PS - Sorry for the Photobucket over print, I'm contacting them about it....AGAIN!!! I contacted Photobucket and see they fixed it! Terry,
There is no “Divisional” cap badge as the Division was composed of a mix of Teeth Arms, Support Arms and Services. Since forming at the start of WW2, in its time many Armoured and Infantry regiments and battalions served in 7th Armoured Division, later Brigade so you would need to check the Order of battle (ORBAT) over the years. However, there would always be units of RHA/RA, RE, R SIGNALS, RASC, RAOC, REME, RAMC etc. Since 2014 it has been re-titled as 7th Infantry Brigade and HQ East! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7th_In...dquarters_East Diagrams show skeleton ORBATS of an Armoured Division in 1940 and 1944 Tim

Tim has already given you an answer but for me it is slightly more complicated than that, as 7th Armoured was not only a Divisional sized organisation but also a Brigade for many years within the British Army. It may be worth your while to have a quick look at the entry on wikipedia with which not only gives a history of 7th Armoured Brigade but also gives a snap shot of the units within the Brigade circa 2007 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7th_Ar...United_Kingdom) Regards Steve |

I could perhaps have been clearer by saying that the Division/Brigade 'badge' is the cloth Formation Sign of a Jerboa (Desert Rat)! But I did mention 'Brigade' twice in my initial response. Here is a direct link to information concerning brigade status:

Thank you all very much. You have given me the answer I needed. Based your replies and the scope of the number of units and the long time period of my collection, I think it is best just forget adding a cap badge as that seems to be a great number needed, and this outside my main interest. I will continue to pick up patches however.
