Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve
Found this among a number of my old badges; thought it might be worth showing:

Nice badge, Peter. Here is the medal/badge that belonged to a cousin of mine who unfortunately died in India during WW2.

Hello Tinto,
Thanks for posting the medal, and for sharing the story behind it. My badge is approx 21mm in diameter, how does that compare with yours? Regards, PJ |

Hi Peter,
The medal is closer to 22mm diameter. I have a couple of lugged (N-S)badges like yours the same size. Cheers, Tinto |

Good whatever time it is Peter and Tinto.
I'll try and get a decent piccie of my version of the and post it tomorrow. Mine is, 9/8ths" of an inch in diameter, (I hate Metric, we should all stay with Imperial) on an original ribbon and with a Birmingham hallmark for 1916. Regards Brian |

Hello Brian,
By '9/8ths' do you mean 1 inch and 1 eighth? If so, this makes it roughly 5/16" wider than Tinto's and mine. Very interesting. Look forward to seeing it. PJ Last edited by Peter J; 19-02-11 at 09:09 AM. |

Just seen this for sale online - looks as though mine may have been lugged as opposed to brooched, as I had originally thought.
PA Lugged.JPG Looking at the back of my badge, the top fixing appears to look like the foot of a lug. Reverse.jpg Too small for a cap badge, or not??? PJ Last edited by Peter J; 21-02-11 at 11:28 AM. |

Good afternoon Peter.
I agree with you on that, I think yours is a lugged version. However, as I know nothing at all about this unit and whether or not they wore head dress badges, I can't comment on what it may of been worn on. I must do some research. Regards Brian |

I wonder if Paul (Coldstream) has any images of this unit in his records? His postcard collection is becoming pretty impressive. Cheers, PJ Last edited by Peter J; 21-02-11 at 01:55 PM. |

A great find, Brian; thanks for the link.
Looks as though the lugged version could be for either the cap or collar, then. Hard to tell from the photo if there is a difference in size, but since both are so similar, I doubt if such a small cap badge could have accommodated a slider... what do you reckon? Perhaps the N/S orientation of the lugs might be significant in this respect? PJ |
