Default R.N. COMMANDO Title

On good advice I am posting photo of an R.N. COMMANDO title, embroidered pattern. There is no reaction to UV light. Can anyone date this please, and comment on whether I should class I as Good, Bad or Ugly?

Perfectly OK as far as I am concerned. This extract from my book Badges on Battle Dress sheds some light on this particular example.

Jon

Initially ‘Royal Navy’ – both embroidered and printed versions of which are recorded in use - was worn with a separate ‘Commando’ title, both white embroidered and red printed versions recorded. In August 1943 these were replaced by a one piece ‘R.N. Commando’ woven title made by Northampton-based sports goods makers White & Bishop at the request of Lieutenant Roger Wake, Assistant Training Officer, HMS Armadillo, the Beach Commando training centre. A Northampton resident who had dealt with the firm before the war, Lieutenant Wake paid for the first batch of titles sent to HMS Armadillo after the Admiralty refused to meet the cost. Their manufacture by the firm is confirmed in an HMS Armadillo letter dated 23rd September 1943. An official printed version is first recorded in an Admiralty file on 1st October 1943.

Thank you for such a detailed response, greatly appreciated. I have never been strong on UK militaria despite collecting since the late sixties. I've always leaned toward the foreign area. I'm at the moment sorting my Royal Marines Commando titles/daggers, being a former Bootneck and found the RN title. So a nice surprise. Thank you.
Final question - how rare is an original Cash's tape "COMMANDO" title? I guess expensive?

Hi,
Sorry but from what I can see are the embroidery threads synthetic ?
A burn test could make it clear.
Kind regards

I did try the burn test, no melting at all, just the flame. So guess all remains well. At the same time tested threads of a tombstone Combined Operations patch, also checked with the UV light, same results as for the title.
