Sliders ..Lugs
i think you've done this all before , but can I ask please . Grenadier Guards badges ..they, for the most part were lugs , then went to sliders about 1903-06 , ( there were still some lugs about depending on units ) ..and have been sliders ever since ?
Is that close in a nutshell ? Thanks |

They were lugged certainly during WW2 and onwards. IMHO

They changed from one to the other. All recorded in WO Pattern numbers (at TNA). I looked up all the Guards loops / sliders for Andy Plewa once but can't find the details at the moment. I'll keep on searching !
All I've got now is that the first GG cap badge issue in 1897 specified loops and that they were still wearing this pattern in 1916. |

KLR when you say first issue, what do you mean by this as the Grenade cap badge has been worn since about 1860ish.

There was a recent batch of ORs anodised badges made with a slider. London Badge and Button Co Ltd marked.
Besides that ive never come across either anodised badge that wasnt fitted with lugs. |

Andy, sorry - I hadn't picked this up.
What I was referring to was the first issue of new Field Service Cap badges - to replace the Glengarry badges. The process began in 1895 but some units had to wait until 1898. (I'm afraid I still haven't had time to find the guards loop / slider info) |
