4/5th Seaforth Highlanders Good or Bad?
Hi,
I have recently acquired this 4/5th Seaforth Highlanders badge and would like to think it is good, however, could you please advise if it is good or bad? If a copy may I please ask the reason why? I’m still working hard at trying to understanding what are copies and what are original. Thanks Andrew |

Reproduction, sorry. It has a fault mark in the E of Peur.

The very thin foot is an easy way to recognise it.

I'm sorry but that doesn't look at all like a 5th Seaforths feather to me. All the photos I've seen the feather leans the other way and has a distinct 'kink' on the right edge as per the link from tinto.

Also, weren't the feathers on the officer badges attached to the badge, not pinned on separately?

No the feathers were separate so you could add them as you were promoted, the badges with attached feathers are fakes I am told

Yas, I can see that would make sense but I always thought the feathers were loose but still clipped to the badge itself? Does anybody have a genuine badge they could post as an example?
Thanks. Cheers, Alex |

Hi All
Resurrecting this thread. Over the past few years I have seen a few of the fixed-feather type officer badge sell for high prices and am questioning the theory that feathers were separate to the badge. As with all badges, there is often an idea that because one badge is different, it must be a fake, which is often not the case. A classic example would be the idea that all RND badges had to have a Gaunt tablet but that no longer seems to be the case. Here's a couple of links to ones which have sold recently. https://alliedandaxismilitaria.com/shop.php?code=53336 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393954331...2Cchnl%3Dmkcid It makes me rethink the examples I picked up over 20 years ago and perhaps they shouldn't be in the fakes box. Cheers, Alex |

The Axis and ebay both look to be the same make. Whether genuine or not I can't say, but they are terrible quality.

I can't argue with the quality, totally agree with the comments. The question is whether they might be genuine. Maybe if the unit had to source its own badges there was a compromise in quality. As mentioned in the write up, the one on the A&A militaria appears to have 100% provenance.

He might not be the first veteran to buy or be gifted a replacement badge commercially long after he had left the Army. Buy the badge not the story springs to mind.
