Default The Rifles, Buglers' Badges of Appointment

Seeing Charlie585's splendid Album on the badges of the Rifle Brigade reminded me that I had taken a few photographs at The British Military Tournament at Earls Court last December.

The buglers from the Rifles were present to greet the arrival of HRH The Duke of Kent and I took the opportunity to nip along the back and take photographs of their new Badges of Appointment as buglers to the various senior officers in the Regiment.

Sadly the Duke arrived before I could manage all of them but I attach two plus that of the embroidered Back Badge.

The Buglers' badges are very new, they had had them only about a month.
You will see they carry the date "2010" so it is assumed they are worn until this year's competition.

The variation in the bugle cords is also of interest. In addition those appointed also wore different plumes.

The medal ribbon is that of the Croix de Guerre awarded to The Devonshire Regiment in 1917. (I wore this on my BD as a Pte in 1955!!)

Best wishes

Gordon

Hello Gordon,

thanks for you kind comment and also for sharing these images.

It's very nice to see the insignia and I especially like the Bugle cord of the Depot Col Comdt's bugler, wouldn't mind one of those myself as I happen to have a silver bugler that it would compliment nicely.

As well as my late Grandfather being a long serving RB, my other half's late Grandfather was a bugler in the RGJ, apparently of some fame. Unfortunately he passed away before I had the chance to speak to him about it.

Thanks again, and I trust that you enjoyed the tournament.

Regards

Ry

Most Rifles badged Cadet Bugle Platoons hold competitions each year for Colonel Commandants Bugler so I can see variations of this badge appearing for cadets.

I would be interesting to know which company made it.

I think the Kings Regiment had a similar competition in the mid 1990`s, and the C.O.`s and Adjutants buglers had gold and silver wire buglers badges respectively as shown below.
