There is a book which I have a copy of some where, think its 'British Military Badges and buttons'
It has photos of Victorian cap badges, this horse type is illustrated as you show on the West Yorks. Image of book attached cant locate mine to scan photo. Tony

Oooops disregard my previous posting, have located my copy of book.
The badge I was thinking of IS the 3rd Kings Own Hussars, however the horse is the West Yorkshires  Tony.........

Hi Alan,
it is described as a cap badge and with blades it must ne a cap badge. I have never seen the butch horse as a cap badge though, i have only ever seen it as a collar badge. Cheers, Dave

The wrong " white horse of hanover " for me but the badge in the attached photo is fitted with a slider but I think it may have started life as an officers silver and gilt collar badge.

Just to elaborate on the above, the White Horse of Hanover that Peter and I are interested in (KLR) went through umpteen variations. There are, to be sure official designs for the 1896 and 1926 Patterns but although there are many that conform, there are just as many that do not - some of these variations are chronological simplifications and some are manufacturers variations. Officer's badges however, go through slightly less variation in design.
I would not be surprised therefore, if the W Yorks' horse goes through various designs over time. I sympathise with Dave in that new variants turn up all the time but they make sense after a while. This is one of the reasons that I try to find as many different variations as I can (sad, isn't it !).
