Default Lanark RV

93rd Lanarkshire RV officers pouch belt plate 1860.
Formed as the '3rd Highland Corps' and was known as the 'Glasgow Rifle Rangers'. Recruited from highlanders resident within the City with James Dewar as Captain, Malcom McGregor as Lieut and JR Irvine ensign. Became 'I' Coy of the new 4th Corps in 1861.
Cast silver plated crowned thistle wreath bearing strap inscribed "Dia Agus ar Duthaich", the buckle in high relief. The whole wreath being lead filled. Mounted to the centre a die-struck St. Andrew in rich gilt, three screw posts to the reverse with hand made wing nuts. Not maker marked but I have seen one other example with the nameplate of the silversmith Whytock of Dundee.
