British Shako Insignia …need help
I have a chance to purchase this Shako but not something I normally collect. Typically stick to WW1 and 2 items. Any info anyone could provide would be appreciated. The shako is in great shape and named on the inside. I’m curious about the insignia …..Lancashire ..Artillery ??

Liverpool Linnets
I think the shako plate may be that of the Liverpool Linnets (2nd Royal Lancashire Militia) Duke of Lancaster’s Own Rifles. In 1881 I believe they became a Militia Battalion of The King’s Liverpool Regiment.
I’m sure P.B. will be able to confirm or correct if I’m mistaken. |

The shako itself is in remarkably good condition and has very little wear for something that is over 140 years old.

Hello,
A very nice condition and original 'Last Shako' worn 1869 - 1878 of a Volunteer or Militia Junior Officer. The name of A. Newman however does not appear on the 1877 Army List for the Liverpool based Militia units so I suspect that as it has a retailer in Bath also that the badge has been added to the shako by a collector much later. Not withstanding that its a nice piece and worth about £800 in my opinion. best wishes

I agree with Luke. The badge is certainly that of the Liverpool Linnets

Liverpool Linnets
Definitely Liverpool Linnets. I have the helmet plate, shako plate, and cross belt plate. Check out my album. I’ll be posting better photos soon.
