4th Middx- 4th VB KRRC (Later 13th London Regt.)

Then a few glengarries for some of the RV's on earlier posts. The 37th Middx (Bloomsbury) before renumbering to become 19th.

Thanks. As far as I know the bi-metal 3rd is a fictitious badge showing the same die flaws as the repro 7th Londons. The only badge possibly similar and I may well be wrong here is the centre piece of the officers helmet plate but even that is much larger.

Cheers for that Keith. I had always been suspicious as they were supposely the 3rd RVs until 1908 when they became 7th C.o.L but I assumed in the pre '08 days they would have been like the old VBs ie white metal and most probably lugged.

I've never seen a decent BM 3rd RV before, but interestingly on ebay Leighbuzzly is selling a "ORIGINAL 3RD C.O.L." that is "ONE FROM MARLOWS, SO ARE 100% ORIGINAL" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORIGINAL-3RD-C...QQcmdZViewItem

Luke,

A few years ago I bought several badges on ebay and the seller mistakenly added 2 sets of one lot. Funningly enough one was a restrike 7th london and the other lot had a fake 3rd London badge - both identical except for the numeral. When I say identical, they were identical grenades, identical silders, identical aging and patination. Both fakes of course. What they also had was the same 'bubbles' in the flames of the grenade that are shown on your example. I have also bought some badges from that seller 'from Marlows' and sent them back by return of post. To be fair he does however have some excellent badges.

I agree with you 100% Alan, Leighbuzzly is definately one of the better ebay dealers in terms of quality on the most part, had a few nice badges off him recently. His no quibble return policy is very good as well.

A new arrival today and one I've been after for ages as it completes the for the Royal Sussex Regiment. This one the 1st Cinque Ports (Hastings) R.V who didn't take up the 3rd VB title.

Is this one of the most copied badges ever ? -the officers cross belt plate of the 8th Scottish V.B. Kings Liverpool Regt.

This one is right and hopefully the hall marks which are immediatly below the "V" of V.B will be visible in the close up even though they are very small.

Nice to se an original.
I can't quite make out the HM - the maker is ??? & S, then there should be the lion denoting sterling. After that, crucially, the city mark (is it the leopards head of London) and the year letter - a lower case h or n ???. It should be fairly straightforward as it would only have been within the period 1900 - 1908 - eg if is London and h then it's 1903.

As there has been little discussion in relation to the early periods of the volunteer movement I thought that this circa 1870 shako would be of interest. It is thought to be a 1st Oxfordshire Volunteer Rifle Corps officer's shako. Any comments?

Stanley ,rather like badges, you can often tell more from the bits you cannot see, than those you can.

Could you post some pictures of the inside of the item please
