Default Scots epaulette mystery

I presume this is an item of Royal Scots uniform, judging by the style of thistle badge, but which period and what order of dress would this recent acquisition have come from? Thanks for any information.

That appears to be a Lord Lieutenant of Scotland epaulette, but the style is different. I may be related to the Royal Scots.
