Middlesex Regiment 'Footballers'
Can someone help me get my head around this one as I'm stumped ?
ebay item No. 310023068050
First off, I've never liked this badge and doubted it's existence, fictitious and a folly.
But what's happening here? An officer's OSD collar, Firmin stamped but with w/m overlays (note: not sweated on or pinned) as per a typical OR's plus the football tagged on. Easy done but like the 18th Pals why not add the football onto something more convincing such as a £5 bimetal with sweatholes? What's getting me is the feathers as the seperation between them is unique to OSD's normally J & Co's & Firmin's (but not Gaunt's). Someone has gone to the trouble to stamp out this detail to attach to what is probably a genuine OSD. I've seen others before but these are like the Pals badge so the Middlesex and Ich Dien overlays are used on both.
£46 last time I looked so that probably answers my question.
