Home Guard blackened badges
Apropos various recent posts, does anyone have any documented evidence for HG units wearing 'blackened' local regimental badges ???

Interesting.......
Of late I have noticed a few blackened Hertfordshire Regiment cap badges. I did start a thread here http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=49748 but never really got anywhere with it. Looking through my copy of "The Hertfordshire Regiment an illustrated History" I can see no picture evidence to support the HG wearing blackened badges, only the normal GM. Also, a quick flick through "Standing Up To Hitler: The Story of Norfolk's Home Guard & Secret Army 1940-1944" shows the same. All the best, Andy |

There was an OTC which wore bronzed Herts badges so they may be those rather than HG.

I think we discussed this in the other thread. However, all the images that I have seen of St Albans school OTC, they appear to be wearing the normal GM badge. Again, when worn by cadets in Hertfordshire, it would appear to be the same. Out of interest, here are three that I own. Last edited by Nozzer; 17-02-18 at 10:24 PM. |

I checked EJ Martin's article and your right; he does not specify the finish so its inconclusive. Still no closer to working out where the black ones came from then,
