Good evening Marcus,
In 'Edwards & Langley's' book on Trade badges etc badge illustrated as No 206, page 126, is MT (Motor Transport), in a wreath and the letter T in this illustration is exactly the same style of letter as that which you are terming as a letter J in your illustrated badge. So, may I suggest that your badge is STO. Sadly, there is no such badge mentioned in the book, not even in the unidentified section, so I'm unable to identify its purpose. All good wishes, Peter. |

Good evening Staffsyeoman,
Thank you for joining in. I wasn't aware that this item had been discussed before however, looking at the unofficial badges on page 126, and in particular badges No'd 206 (MT), and 210 (SLO), there is a significant difference between the letters T and L. In the badge that Marcus displays the letters S & O are exactly the same 'font' as the S & O in the SLO badge (210) on page 126. All good wishes, Peter |

Good evening Marcus,
Sorry that I couldn't positively identify the cloth badge. I wondered if the badge had a Royal Signals connection with the letter 'T' standing for Telegraphist or perhaps, Teleprinter?. Pure conjecture on my part!. All good wishes, Peter |

I had one of these trade badges in my first collection in the UK and acquired it in a group lot of British airborne related items. It was identified in that group as a Static Jump Operator. At a later date I also managed to get a similar badge with SJI or is it STI. Again unidentified by me but by the same logic could stand for Static Jump Instructor. I do not have a personal view on this possible identification but leave it out there for comment. I do not own these any more.
