Default Brass Parachute Regiment Badge

Hello
I would appreciate comments on this brass Parachute Badge, it has all the attributes that I would expect to see on a good original. I own many badges including nickle plated, but this one does not show any signs of ever being plated.

Thanks Alan, i have been looking at posts for quite a while and have learned a lot. Looking forward to some comments on this item, as I have heard of all brass badges before, but this is the first I have seen.

This could be one that slipped through without being plated. I personally do not believe that the WW2 Parachute Regiment wore brass cap badges, without seeing yours in the hand and examining it under an eyeglass I am unable to give a better opinion. It is a genuine WW2 pattern badge.

You have joined an excellent forum to improve your knowledge of this subject, good luck with your collecting.

Cheers,
Jack

I'd agree with Jack that this appears to be an original badge. I think if it had been worn as a brass badge the front would be more burnished so two likely possibilities; an unfinished example, as Jack notes, which wasn't plated or the plating has completely gone.

I don't recall seeing credible evidence that a brass example was ever worn but happy to be proved wrong.

Might be an old wives tail but i was told the brass badge was the first type trialled but was rejected in preference to the wm version. The brass badge did not stand out sufficiently on a red beret!

The badge in the opening post is indeed that exact same badge. Note the fleck of verdigris on the second innermost feather of the (viewers) right wing. Genuine badge IMO.

Cheers,
Luke

Genuinely not at all, I was unaware it was on a site until Andy’s post. From the opening post I believed it was in pahannah’s collection...
Cheers,
Luke

Apologies,
My comment was not meant at you Luke but at the esteemed seller.

Thanks for the responses, its appreciated.

I was hoping to add to my collection, however £200 does seem a little steep, and apart from my silver badge would represent the most I have ever spent, its even 3 times more than my flat lug versions, and 3 times any of my voided crown ones.

I have purchased a number of Parachute badges from the seller, and all have been very good.

I am pleased you agree that it does indeed meet all other criteria, I am getting better at spotting them, again I have read references to all brass versions, but alas I don't think there will ever been conclusive evidence of them ever being issued.

Thanks again
Paul
