Default The Inniskillings (6th Dragoons)

I am not sure who these two gentlemen are but the one on the left is a discharged serviceman as he is wearing a Silver War Badge. The Corporal on the right appears to be a member of The Inniskillings (6th Dragoons). He appears to be wearing the INNISKILLING shoulder title (Westlake 98) which was introduced in 1920. I would have expected him to be wearing Great War medal ribbons in a 1920s photograph. He is also wearing a scout badge.

Always interesting to see the metal scout badge being worn.

If it is indeed post Great War [I know little about cavalry clothing after 1919] then the scout badge is a very rare sighting. From memory it does not figure in any post war Vocabs etc.

Happy to be corrected, but I have filed him as a most interesting anachronism.

I would date the photo as between September 1916 when the SWB was first issued and December 1918 when the 1914-1915 Star was introduced. The 6th Dragoons landed in France in December 1914 and the corporal would almost certainly have been among them, he looks like an old hand. I can't really make out the shoulder title at all.

The shoulder title observed through a magnifying glass appears to be a long curved one, hence my thinking that is was the Inniskilling title that was used from 1920. However, a high resolution photograph of the epaulette reveals that it might indeed be the 6D shoulder title with a blob of light in line behind it.

Looks like the 6D title and a bit of fluff.
