A South African artillery one? The battle honour is the name of the unit.

Hello Pembird, Please can you explain why you believe the SA Artillery button is an Officer’s button. It seems to be well worn with no traces of gilt. Best regards D.J.

Artynut the button has typical fixed shank and heavy weight indicating it is indeed an officers button just like the other hundred or so officer buttons l have.

Pembird, Perhaps you might like to check my “Albums”, in particular the “Southern African buttons” I have two different Finish Officer’s buttons shown there, Gilded and Bronze finish. Best regards, D.J.

Although not to this unit I have a number of officer's buttons which have originally been gilded but have been bulled, those on a A & SH officer's interwar SD Doublet spring to mind as being particularly worn.

Enclosed image of reverse of this button as l am informed it is an other ranks button. This might be the case although l have always thought this type of reverse indicates an officer quality.
