Default Wm Scully of Canada Glengarry - Military or Civilian?

Recently I came across a dark blue glengarry made by William Scully of Montreal, Canada. (See attached pics)

It appears to be old but, as we all know, glengarries can be hard to date. Also, while Wm Scully made uniforms for the military, they also sell to civilian pipe bands.

I have a lot of questions about this one. The glen is missing a toorie and the hat band seems much wider than I have seen with other glengarries. The name, "MACKAY" is stitched into the hat next to the maker's label. There are holes where a badge was attached, but they appear to be on the right, not left side.

I would be very interested in hearing what others with greater expertise than mine think about the glengarry.

Thanks in advance!

Reid

It may be either a civilian or military glen. Many civilian and military pipe bands wear the plain dark blue glens.

Thank you, Bill

What do you think the age of the glengarry is? It uses the Imperial measurements, so older than the 1970s, which is when I think the metric system was introduced to Canada.

The label has a University Street address :

Quote:
The firm remained on University St. until it was expropriated in 1958 by the city to make way for Place Ville Marie. The firm moved to Craig St.,

It is quite old as mentioned, and I think it more likely for civilian use with that broad grosgrain band around the outside.

Bill, Mike and CB - thank you for your replies. I had the same thought about how wide the band was, the badge holes on the right, and no tourie. It is a beautiful old glengarry, but I agree it is not military. I am glad I asked for help.

That wiki link doesn't work?

(I've tried posting the link, same problem).
A basic Google throws up the Wikipedia article.

It's weird ! When you click on the link I posted it brings up a page saying the article doesn't exist ... yet if you then click on the "Did you mean: William Scully Ltd.?" link it goes straight to the page I posted ?

Found the other source of info (I always try to double check wiki !) , it was Scully's own website.

https://www.williamscully.ca/shop/do..._history_1.pdf

Their documents archive has a lot of interesting documents/articles.

Thanks Mike. Someone posted a graphic with images of the Scully marks and dates. I thought I had copied the entire post, but it turns out I only got one image. Looking to update the article as a reference.
