Am I right in thinking that this badge has a fake makers mark on the slider?

Your thinking is quite correct.

In looking at the other items being offered by this seller They all seemed to have the exact same finish/patina, which reminded me of cabinet drawer pulls from the hardware store.

I’d stop looking, they’re all fake. The sob story about the returned items is funny though.

Default Fakes

I’d agree with the others don’t even bother considering any of them I start on the premise that the badge is wrong what proves any different? It might seem odd but most of the badges you see particularly on Fleabay and even auctions are fakes, restrikes call em what you will. IMOO you can drive yourself nuts with does it have this die flaw and that microscopic mark on the orb or whatever try to handle and look at genuine badges and you’ll develop a sense of what’s right and wrong. Real age and manufacturing techniques will become easier to identify and you’ll get the hang of iffy makers markers marks.

When 99% of a seller’s wares are shite, why question the 1%? Sellers like this have come and gone over the period of time this forum has been in existence. Sooner or later they disappear and then they’ll come back again sooner or later along with same dumb recognisable or similar background because it’s bulk listings and quicker to load ebay sales. Get to know their predicable images and give them a swerve.

If a seller is uncapable of uploading properly focussed pictures and having an item description IN CAPS LOCK WITHOUT PUNCTUATION than steer away.

Someone actually bought this and bids on his other bits too I’m not sure how much these people pay for these badges to begin with but unless they really hook someone and sell for a lot of money I can’t imagine it’s that lucrative really? Anyway people are buying it I imagin thinking they are getting a genuine badge these people must have awful collections.
