Hi Gents,
Simon the slider is white metal, I can see now that the volunteers badge was a full strike. So mine is a chromed standard badge who wore this badge and what era was it worn. Colin. |

The reason I asked is that WM badges would have a brass slider whereas plated badges would have a plated slider also, like yours. regards

In some instances it’s for wear as a sweetheart or a badge display. For some regiments there’s debate or even evidence that chromed badges were worn by the band at times or units attached to an Armoured formation in WW2. For my tuppence worth I believe in the majority of cases it’s the first two scenarios. When was it worn, on a ‘short’ slider any time between 1906 - 1947. There’s no telling when it was plated, it may have been after its period of use so to speak. I’m sure as you were looking to move it on the next question is value. Without some supporting evidence that a chrome badge was worn in an official capacity then for most purist collectors a plated badge is less appealing than the standard BM, which is worth circa £8. There are a few who collect chromed/plated badges so it may be more appealing to them. Last edited by Luke H; 21-10-21 at 07:41 PM. |

Hi Gents,
As always thanks for the enlightenment on this badge, I think I will slot it within my Hampshire collection as it’s a nicely made original badge. Again thanks to you all for your expert advice. Colin. |
