Two Part Cast Essex Regiment?
I've been sorting through my odds and sods this week, thought this might be a locally made overseas item?
Two part construction, all brass, 40 x 40 mm, base scroll and Egypt/Sphinx tablet fitted via small rivets/wire tabs. Slider marked "G" or "C" "EN43" Your thoughts please! Andy |

2 part cast Essex Regiment
Andy - I would go along with overseas - probably an Indian bazaar type item, sand cast (rather than lost wax) purchased by a guy serving over there. Anecdotes tell of the service available to British troops - you took off your 'proper' badge, they pressed it into the sand mould, poured the molten brass, set a pre-made slider (or lugs, if preferred) and 'hey presto' your own personal bazaar made cap badge for a few annas. Where can you get such service today ?

Cast Essex
Hi Andy,
I had a single piece last year, dead rough ( I thought at the time, of a lady seller in Nuneaton ), it had not had a slider or lugs at any time in the past. I was able to clean, it up and then fit lugs, when finished, it was a tidy little badge and sold immediately, not for a lot I might add ??? Dave. |
