Default Research literature, print or online

Would members be able to recommend decent research literature for UK SF badges, patches and related militaria? I have for sometime collected whermacht awards, and that field of collecting is awash with some very, very good research literature. It certainly helps the collector to separate good from the vast amounts of bad.

Peter Taylor's book on special forces is the best (and easily available) on badges, but it isn't faultless like any book. Apparently Len Whittaker's book is good too but out of print.
David Gordon has a great website about his collection, you can find some reference books there too.

And there's always my website that could do with an update.

Hello Sly,

Not insignia but you mentioned "related military" SF items. I have been collecting, writing and dealing in Special Forces knives for many years, if that is of interest please feel free to check out my website.

Best wishes, Roy.

Impressive site with lots of decent information. It looks stylish too! Funnily enough, I was only last night about to bid on what seemed like a very interesting dagger attributed to service in the South Pacific/New Guinea.

What are you thoughts on this?

All the best,

Len Whittaker's book is "Some Talk of Private Armies" (1984) and is occasionally to be found on eBay and the website ABEBooks. And there are some excellent collections including some remarkable SF pieces held by individuals who do not participate in this forum.

Hi Sly,

I checked out the link, I'm afraid I have not seen one like this before so can't really comment. It looks like the myriad of US theatre (one off) made knives that pop up. My advice is if You like it then that's fine but I would not pay too much for it.

Beset of luck , Roy.
