I don't know it as K.A.R. but that means nothing.
Here's a couple of links that may be of interest to you,
Sorry for not being much help.

I agree with Zob, 6 KAR. It looks like 3786 in Owen's book. Regards Andrew

I have one just like it and I also asked the same question about a year ago.

Have always wondered if this is an easy badge to find?

Default 6th Kings African Rifles

Hi JJ
I should imagine it's a fairly scarce badge in anodised aluminium. I have seen a couple of others which have allways been the 6th Kings African Rifles type but never any of the other Batallions.

I would imagine it would have been a short lived badge, produced in the early 6o's before independance for many of these African nations.

I'd hang on to your one JJ they become sought after one day !

Regards

Hi Mate,

Just to pee you off I have been unable to find evidence that of all the KAR battalions the 6th was not officially authorised for issue. I will though include it in the Unauthorised Badges appendix with a couple of others that I have found yesterday (actually in my own collection) which were the 7th Hussars and Queens Bays.

Regards

Chris

Thanks Brit, I`ll do that. I do tend to see a lot of African badges, there doesnt appear to be many collectors for them.

I wonder of this was the badge they wore at the time of the Mau Mau?

I confirm this is an ex-6 KAR badge, I served with the 6th battalion KAR in late 1950s and still have my own from that time. The badge was used from the 6th bn's formation in the '40s

Hi John,

Its always great to hear from the vets who actually wore the badges.

Can you tell us when the regiment received the anodised badge for wear? Was it well liked?
