Default 49th Division white metal rose with cloth backing

The inter-war white metal rose of 49th Div often comes with a cloth backing which is believed to indicate the unit in the division.

The attached example shows one with a tartan backing which seems unlikely for 49 Div but which has clearly been on there for some time. Interesting to see the JR Gaunt mark on the rose.

Anyone got any suggestions as to who might have worn it? Or is it just a piece of cloth added for display purposes?

Jon
