Default Beret in local auction.

Spotted this is a local auction (already ended)...thought the forum may be interested in it.

Hi Mark,

Not really my field but I don't notice anything unremarkable about this modern looking beret. I may be wrong!

I was talking to a guy yesterday that was sold a beret that was bought at my local car boot sale last Sunday for £4. It was a wartime dated Para beret and I believe that it changed hands yesterday for 45 times that amount and is still sought after by a collector willing to pay more.

I really wish that I hadn't had that lay in last weekend

Ry

The 99 in the vocab number apparently indicates that it's British

These numbers were introduced when I was serving in the Royal Navy c.1963. They were known indeed known as NATO Stock Numbers and 99 was British manufacture and 120 for other countries.

Thanks 54Bty that's the first time I have seen all those other numbers, as in one of their better decisions whoever was responsible for writing up the NATO Stock Book for the Royal Navy (bless his little cotton socks) simply used 99 and 120 - It certainly made life easier for us Stores Accountants!

The codes denote the country of origin of the item that has been allocated a stock number.

These numbers were (IIRC) preceded by a vocab section , as a VM I was most used to working with vehicle spares which were something like LV6/MT4 """" "" """ """"
