Been trying to find information on this band for some time. Anyone know the tartan and uniform detail? Maybe some band history? Thanks

I am at Aldershot tomorrow(Sunday) and hopefully I can ask "Ian", a rhodesian, who may have a table there along with Chris TOFT, your questions.
If I remember of course

Thanks for that link Jerry, it made great reading. I missed it in Maggie's paper, probably because I go straight of section 5 of the Bulawayo Morning Mirror to see how many names I recognise - sadly that happens most weeks.

Regards,

johnG

Hi Jerry
I got mine from a friend who used to be in the RhCoE band. He told me they made the badges basically themselves, and there probably weren't more than about 30 made, so a great badge to find.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi All, I have had this badge for a bit. It has no fittings on the back, 57mm in diameter. What would it be? Regards Andrew

I have been told this is a badge worn during UDI in Rhodesia by the C of E band but it seems strange it has no fixings. Alex has said that the band members made up their own badges. Maybe this is one which was never finished before the band was disbanded.
Is the badge a two piece or is the badge painted onto the back plate?
My one is a three piece with normal Rhodesian cap badge on a brass plate, approx 55mm dia in engr colours with a metal LOWLAND type chrome plated cross fixed to the rear of the plate. Unable to photo as I have already mounted this and do not wish to do any damage by taking it apart and then refixing again.
If you ever want to part with it I could give it a home here in the UK

Hi Jerry, thank you for the info. It looks like it was stamped out and then the lower parts were painted in and enamel type paint. The higher points like the bird are brass and stand out and are not painted. I will send a pm. Regards Andrew

Hello Andrew,

I think it could have been intended as a belt buckle centre?

Cheers

Dave
