As always thanks in advance.

It was worth a try Phil.

Is your new avatar anything to do with your recent trip to Southampton?

Cheers mate,

OK, so let me put you in the picture.

A few weeks ago Phil drove down from Essex to visit Southampton to hear Charlie 585 give a really first class talk to the historical society I am involved with.

It took him six hours to get home !!!!!!!

Six hours to do a three hour journey !!!!!!!!

.......Well........what really happened was the car immediately in front of him was in a horrific collision with a big truck and Phil called police, ambulance, and stopped to give assistance at the scene.

A sobering thought that had he been on the road a few seconds earlier it might have been him that got ironed out.

Our lad from Essex did us proud, so a big round of applause please.

Well done Phil.

Cheers,
johnG

Andy,

It is a helmet badge of the Devonport Borough Police. The force was formed in 1836 and amalgamated with the Plymouth City Police in 1914 at which tiome they had 92 men. Nothing to do with Chatham or its docks. Incidentally, that particular pattern of badge was being worn at the time of their demise.

Best wishes, Dave.
