Default RE all-white?

Is there any legitimate reason why an anodised RE cap badge would be painted white? I found one in a second-hand shop the other day and wonder if it's a genuine paint job (band, foreign service helmet, whatever) or just someone messing around.
Thanks.

Probably some one messing around or it was painted for a presentation piece??
The band wear/wore a busby with plume holder when on "marching" duties in full dress. When on "band stand" duty wear the No2 hat with a normal a/a badge, again in reds and other times a beret with a/a badge in working dress.

Apart from the fact you do not tend to wear a badge in Arctic Camouflage!
