Default ' footed ' lugs

Hello Steve,

Thanks very much for jumping in on this one and of course, thanks for your endorsement of the Lancs badge, the poor badge will be feeling like my B.B. Queen's model, this one has gone from a QVC ( my hopes ) version, to a copy, to a repaired QVC and now to a more modern, kosher variant, good innit ?? at least I can put this one to bed.

Also Steve, the apparent residue of old braze that you think might indicates a third lug, is a definite no-no, the smooth part in the top of the ball of the grenade, is the reverse stamp between the head and tail of the Sphinx and should a third lug have originally been fixed in the back of the flames, that's a no too, 40% of the reverse of the flames is covered in what Malcolm calls ' the pink stuff ', also the reverse ' patina ' is nice and dark, you have all made me think that it is indeed a ' good un ' but just not as old as I had hoped...............................unless of course ???????

While talking to you, I am going to show a couple of badges that came to me recently, amongst a group of cheap badges, I wonder if this is the type of lug to highlight the ' footed ' variety that Luke mentions, can you jump in Luke, please ??

Again, thanks Steve, all help, opinions and advice is appreciated, all the best,

Dave.

PS, please. I don't want to know if these are good, I know they aren't, it's the type of lugs used that I am showing, again, thanks, DC.

Yes Dave, they do vary but those are what I refer to as footed lugs... ghastly aren't they!

Cheers,

Luke

Default 'footed' lugs

Cheers Luke,

Yes mate, blatantly so, plus the ' Christmas Cracker ' finish on the reverse ???

You won't like the next little listing I put up, they are for my friend in Belgium and he believes them to be genuine, or at least he did...........I had to tell him that if I could see the difference, then anyone would, lol.

It's a good job badges don't have souls etc, if they did, all mine would be bl**dy paranoid....................................

Nice to see you back so regularly, it will be my turn soon, my PC is being slowly eaten after a Trojan attack..............................watch this space.

All the best.

Dave.

Just to complete on the Lancs Fus badge. It was first authorised in September 1897 with loops/lugs (though the records don't say how many !) and a new version - with slider - was authorised in May 1903. J

Hi All,
For what it's worth, I have several, Boer War period, Lancs Fus badges and this one looks 'a good un' to me.

Thanks mate,

I'm keeping it anyway, I still believe the ' pink stuff ' is a good sign, I do listen to people when they offer advice but if that advice conflicts, what do we do ??

Cheers.

Dave.
